What is art?

I believe that art is anything that stirs an emotion within you. Of course, those emotions can depend on your history, your story… basically everything that comes together to make you who you are. So for me, art is all about YOU!

While I love creating pieces of art that make me happy, really I’m at my happiest when it’s all about you and not about me at all.

My style
I consider myself to be a designer by profession but an artist in my heart.
I don’t paint in a draughty loft, I’m not starving or a troubled soul so I’m not sure if I really have the right to call myself an artist in the true sense of the word. My husband says I do ‘colouring in for a living’ so does that count?

I don’t have a style as such as I am a bit of a creative flibbertigibbet. Maybe my style is to just do what makes my heart happy… sometimes that’s painting with an understated, muted palette and other times it’s splashing around wild colours, sometimes it’s intricate and detailed and other times it’s all a bit free and loose.

My inspirations –

I find inspiration in the natural world around me for my abstract painted muted collections, I find inspiration in the wonderful stories of love and companionship when I draw my hand-drawn pet portraits and I find inspiration in form and detail when I create my home watercolours.

As I say above, while I love creating pieces of art that make me happy but I’m at my happiest when it’s all about you and not about me at all.

And last but not least, I love creating a new logo or brand identity for your new or existing business, bringing your vision to life in a way you never imagined yourself.

I’m thinking about what you want every time I start to put paint on a blank canvas or look at a blank screen on my computer.

You see, it really is all about you!

I guess my love of art started way back in my childhood when I’d pester my Dad to buy me a new drawing pad, oh how I loved that first blank page… of course in typical child fashion as soon as that first page was drawn on I lost interest and wanted a new pad!
I’ve never really lost that love of a new pad, I have dozens of them laying around the place, each with only a few pages used.

About a million years ago I studied art and design at Brunel College and after graduating I spent many years working as a graphic designer, photographic stylist and then as creative director for large and small advertising agencies.

During this time I also took on private interior design commissions and have had several of my home projects featured in glossy homes magazines.
I also started my own design business and loved the personal connections with my clients and that continues today with my commercial graphic design work and my personal art commissions.
